PLZ&W Railroad from 1912 to 1924: $8.00
In 1911 work on PLZ&W started but there was one problem. The Lake Zurich golf club property Charles Wood and other members of the club learned that the railroad could not be commission if there was a cemetery built on it. So a Doctor who was also a member of the club went to the county morgue and took unclaimed bodies from four deceased men. They buried them on, the property that would create a cemetery so the PLZ&W couldn’t build their. The PLZ&W was a railroad that started at Palatine Illinois and then went to Deer Grove forest preserve at the time that was a park. Next, Lake Zurich Illinois which was a resort town at the time and finally Wauconda. The train’s name was old Maud that was built in 1885. Today there are still some places that you can see the remains of the track.
