Original COLONIAL AMERICA w/ French & Indian War Rare 1760 Boston Newspaper:
$295.00

Original COLONIAL AMERICA w/ French & Indian War Rare 1760 Boston Newspaper Offered is an original, collectible newspaper (NOT a copy/reproduction): THE BOSTON GAZETTE & COUNTRY JOURNAL, December 29, 1760  * Original colonial America publication
* French and Indian War coverageA quite early issue of this famous title, from near the end of the French & Indian War.Just a few months earlier the governor of Canada surrendered the province of Quebec (New France) to the British, and the French outpost of Detroit surrendered to English forces as well. These events are the backdrop to the considerable front page text offering congratulations to the Massachusetts Governor, Francis Bernard, the first letter beginning: "The conquest of Canada is so great an event that it would argue the greatest insensibility to late it pass unnoticed..." with much more. This is followed by another address to the governor offering congratulations for the victories in Canada.Page 2 has a report that: "...arrived here...in about 6 weeks from London, by whom we have the melancholy news of the death of our most gracious Sovereign King George the Second, of ever blessed memory, who died at Kensington Palace on the 25 of October, 1760, of a rupture in his heart..." with much more on the funeral, etc., taking over a full column.Note: this issue is lacking the back leaf; only pages 1 and 2 are present of what was a 4 page issue. However, the historic content is on the front page, with the patriot engraving in the masthead (Liberty figure setting free the caged dove of peace over the skyline of Boston), which makes this a nice issue for display.
Never bound nor trimmed, some staining and some minor irregularities at the margins but no loss of text or readability. Please Note: All of our offerings are 100% authentic! We do not offer reprints or reproductions of any kind. They are guaranteed to be original!
Links to Archival Storage Options & Certificates of Authenticity Are Below! Historical reports may be beautifulor ugly, but they are always informative. While we rejoice in the beautiful (heroic, discovery, amazing feats, etc.), we at History's Newsstand also offer "the ugly" for we are determined to learn from the wrongs of the past - understanding, to do so, we must be willing to look these wrongs directly in the face and shout "NO MORE!". It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Women's Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree! Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction.
