ST. JOHN ARENA

St. John Arena, located on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, is a historic multipurpose venue that has been an integral part of the university\'s athletic and cultural life since its opening in 1956. Named in honor of former Ohio State men\'s basketball coach and athletic director L.W. St. John, the arena boasts a seating capacity of approximately 13,276. Its design features a distinctive horseshoe-shaped layout that offers an intimate and engaging atmosphere for spectators. For decades, St. John Arena was the primary home of Ohio State\'s men\'s basketball team, witnessing countless memorable games and historic moments.

The arena served as the home court for the Ohio State Buckeyes men\'s basketball team until 1998, when they moved to the larger, more modern Value City Arena. During its tenure, St. John Arena hosted numerous significant events, including the Buckeyes\' run to the NCAA championship in 1960 under the leadership of legendary coach Fred Taylor and star player Jerry Lucas. The arena\'s storied history includes many thrilling games and unforgettable seasons, solidifying its place in Ohio State\'s rich athletic tradition.

In addition to basketball, St. John Arena has hosted a variety of other sports and events. It remains the venue for Ohio State\'s men\'s and women\'s volleyball, gymnastics, and wrestling teams, maintaining its status as a key athletic facility on campus. The arena is also known for hosting the university\'s annual Skull Session, a pep rally held before each home football game that features performances by the Ohio State University Marching Band. This event, deeply embedded in the university\'s traditions, highlights the arena\'s ongoing role in fostering school spirit and community engagement. With its historic significance and continued use, St. John Arena remains a cherished landmark at Ohio State University.
