This listing is for a fragment of Lovellite Glass (sometimes called “Wyoming Obsidian”). In 1928 the Big Horn Glass Factory in Lovell, Wyoming was destroyed in a devastating fire. The following year was the start of the Great Depression, which prevented the rebuilding of the plant. The plant manufactured window glass and, according to lore, Coca Cola bottles. Once cooled, the melted glass was gathered by locals and some was sold to tourists. The fire was hot enough that inclusions of the mineral wollastonite developed in some of the glass. This piece has a no inclusions and weighs about 4.3 ounces. This piece came from an old collection of local rocks purchased in Wyoming. Ruler is shown for purposes of scale only.
