An early, seldom seen Joseph Rodgers “hand ground” Bowie knife and original sheath. Some age-related issues that require attention , but an uncommon, good looking knife. I am fairly certain this is late 19th Century, but not a Rodgers expert.

Measures approximately 10 11/16 inches long overall, point to pommel end. Full tang blade measures approximately 6 5/8 inches long, point to cross guard. Obverse blade with somewhat worn “Joseph Rodgers Sheffield England” stamp. “Hand Ground” stamped to obverse blade near ricasso. “Bowie” stamped to ricasso, somewhat worn. Full tang. Nickel cross guard. Checkered grips (secured by three pins – believe these are hard rubber, but possibly Gutta Percha). Original leather sheath with leather securing strap and pop fastener. Stamped “Real Hide” close to mouth. Staining and scratching to blade with some pitting close to point on both sides – took close up views in the photos. Some staining to spine. Slightly rounded tip. Grips good with a small chip to obverse top edge. Some slight pommel end separation. If you have the skill sets to do a little work on this, it’s a great find.
