HERE IS A SUPER RARE OCTOBER 1874 SIGNED "MORTGAGE OF REAL ESTATE" FROM THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA THAT WAS AUTOGRAPHED BY FAMOUSJEWISHAMERICAN = ASHER D. COHEN & OTHERS. Per the internet, Asher was born in South Carolina in 1838 and fought for the Confederate Army during the Civil War. After the war he became a prominent lawyer in Charleston, South Carolina. I am not a lawyer to explain the contract but Asher D. Cohen signed it on 10/23/1874 as a Notary Public (see 2nd photo). Perhaps Thomas W. Riggs is the lawyer and someone named Elisabeth Inwood is the buyer or the seller. Elisabeth signed near the orange seals. James Abelman and James Simons are also mentioned. NOTE - as you can see in the photos, this real estate contract is in fragile condition. We have many items from the Cohen family that we are selling on and these documents belong in a museum as you can see by googling - Asher D. Cohen South Carolina. Asher passed away in 1904.This is a buy it now sale for just $50, but we will consider reasonable offers.
