OBAN West Highland Malt Whisky Mug Dunoon Pottery Scotland Rare Coffee Tea Drink:
$29.00

This contemporary, never used, 4 1/4” tall stoneware pottery mug was made by Dunoon, a Scottish family-based pottery, which began manufacturing the highest quality mugs in 1974.” The pottery is named for its location, Dunoon, a town of 7,000, located on the western shore of the upper Firth of Clyde, north west of Glasgow. The pottery’s concept is to “produce quality ranges of stoneware mugs, filling a gap in the market, with user friendly, beautifully designed original mugs.Dunoon uses a traditional slip hand-casting method to guarantee a fine, lightweight mug.”

Oban is one of the smallest whisky makers in Scotland with only two pot stills and is built on the edge of the sea at the frontiers of the Hebrides across from the Isle of Mull. The original distillery was established in 1794 and the harbor town grew around it. Today, this smallest of distilleries is owned by Diageo, the largest corporate drinks producer and the global leader in the production of whiskey, producing more than 40% of global supply. The taste of Oban has been described as having a “West Highland flavor that falls between the dry, smoky style of the Scottish Islands and the lighter, sweeter malts of the Highlands.”

The mug itself will teach you more about the product since printed on one side is the following: “Along the shores of Lorn [the name of this former west coast Province of Scotland] lies a record of man far more ancient than that of any city in the land. The first settlers arrived on the mainland in 5,000 B.C. and sheltered in the natural caves of the land then known as “An Ob.” The “Distillery Cave” was one such shelter hidden in the “Creag a Bharrain” cliffs which rise dramatically above the “Oban Distillery.”

With this mug, your morning coffee will never quite be the same.
