Wonderful early piece of human history and artwork. Reviewed by Ph.D.\'s of antiquities and art. No restoration applied. May have been Asian in origin but origin and exact age cannot be determined due to the nature of the piece. The carving was part of a collection as referenced below. After review of the stone and form, it was advised it was more so to the Neolithic Age than that of the Paleolithic. Please review the pictures of the item and message with any questions. Thank you.

Neolithic carved stone bear.

Height: 37 mm; Length: 70 mm; Weight: 57.18 g;

Condition: used, old, a lot of natural scratches, but no defects Mohs’ hardness: 2.5-3.0, soft semitransparent to light rock (Gypsum/Calcite)

Provenance: The Consignor bought the stone bear from a Spanish collector. A private letter, written in 1948 in Algeria, Africa, tells us that the author was collecting objects of Neolithic and Paleolithic cultures at that time. Some of them were purchased in Algeria, in 1940’s. The collector was on service duty in Spanish Foreign Legion.

Provenance includes an image of the signature from the above mentioned letter a photographs of the soldiers of Spanish Foreign Legion with the Collector among them. The collection of Neolithic objects was passed as heirloom to his descendants, some in Gibraltar area.
