This is a traditional Nantucket lightship oval woven rattan cane basket with lid and handle. It is lined in a brown fabric.

The handle is hand carved wood. It folds down

The bottom is wood

The top has a wood plaque on which is a carved bone whale showing teeth and an eye

It has a bone peg and piece with a hole the peg goes through as a closure

It is 7 inches wide and 7 inches tall. When the handle is up, it is an additional 4 inches tall

It is not signed by the artist who made it

It is in very good condition with no missing or damaged parts
