ThisMeteorite shows evidence of experiencing a tremendous impact event. Itwas clearly ejected from the Moon but at some point became a victim toEarth\'s gravitational field and after untold years in outer space landedon Earth.History: Within thelast few years it was observed that a strewnfield existed North ofTindouf Algeria where a few Lunar meteorites were found. Recentlyfurther meteorite hunting expeditions to this location have led to thisnew Lunar NWA 11266 being discovered on the surface with many fragmentsrevealed by shallow excavation of the soil below. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS)Breccia composed of mineral clasts of anorthite, olivine, exsolvedpigeonite, orthopyroxene, augite, fayalite, Ti-chromite, kamacite,taenite and troilite in a finer grained matrix containing smallvesicles. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa20.8-54.4, FeO/MnO = 87-105, N = 3), orthopyroxene (Fs17.0Wo2.9, FeO/MnO = 53), orthopyroxene host (Fs37.9Wo4.8, FeO/MnO = 55), clinopyroxene exsolution lamella (Fs16.9Wo41.9, FeO/MnO = 41), augite (Fs8.6Wo43.1, FeO/MnO = 41), plagioclase (An96.4-96.9Or0.1-0.2, N = 2). Classification: Lunar (feldspathic regolith breccia).
