If you collect unique axes try to find another one of these!!! This listing is for an early Hurds Razor Blade broad axe / hatchet. At some point in time this axe was acquired by the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. and was stamped with their owners mark. From our research we could not find any other axes with the NET&T Co. imprint. Overall length is 18\". The head measures 7\" long with a 6 1/4\" wide cutting edge. Total weight is 4 lbs. 2 oz.As shown the handle has superb patina.
The NET&T Co. was formed Feb. 12, 1878 and merged with the Bell Telephone Co. on Feb. 17, 1879 to form the National Bell Telephone Co.The NET&T Co. mark on this axe was probably only used for the one year of 1878-79.Truly an axe with a rare mark that will give the proud new owner bragging rights in his or her circle of axe collector friends.
