If you’re a seasoned collector or dealer, you know howwonderful and desirable this overall design is, primordial in the ongoingdevelopment of Crystal rug design. The central diamond shape element is onehallmark of Crystal Style. What is significant in this rug, and Rare, isthat this element appears to be themythical horn toad, with its horn spikes forming its own shape which is also adiamond shape. Later rugs evolved with the cooler geometric diamond shape.Also, other geometric motifs/shapes and the simple border in this rug are alsocharacteristic of the initial Crystal style development. Notice the small redbar with no purpose in the design. Usually placed by the weaver as a sign ofhumility, imperfection before the perfect Great Spirit. Lots of lazy lines.

Substantive in this rug is the natural deep cream wool,over-dyed yarn and aniline dyed red yarn( not the Ganado red) and thevariegated wool background in the center.

MINOR CONDITION ISSUES: Both sides are shown; refer to the pictures forall of these: 1) The selvedge cords are fully intact, but broken in places onlyalong the two long sides. A small indigenous repair spot. Two small darkerspots, one in the variegated center and one on the cream background. A largerarea of some light discoloration (only on one side)A few, 2-3 small spots of bug nibbling,exposing warp threads (doesn’t go through to other side). From past experience,I suspect a good professional cleaning would be useful.
