$134.99

From a Catalina Foothils estate in Tucson is this far from ordinary vintage Navajo silver ring. The I believe 1950's (or perhaps 1960's to be safe) signet style ornament features a 21x13.5mm local lapidary rectangle of gem chrysocolla, measurably elevated by an attractive flanking of hand cut silver feathers. This precious green copper mineral has historically served as an on par substitute for turquoise, and its use here was likely motivated by the look of this particular stone. Squash blossom embellishments - their casting, chisel work, and pipe stamp decor all hand accomplished - decorate the labor intensive fabricated shank. You sometimes see trader supplied prefab equivalents of these blossoms on more recent jewelry - these artisanal versions are the real thing. I could go on, though a look at the photos will make clear there is nothing usual about this ring. There are no marks as normal for the time of making, so I will guarantee the sterling fineness. Weight is very good for the form at about 16.3 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is also quite good with a distinct aura of time to the surfaces. The front of the ring shows yellowed traces of some old clear finish (perhaps once applied to protect the stone or hinder tarnish), most of which has worn or flaked away over the decades. Be aware I have avoided every urge to refresh away or "improve" upon this or anything else - you want that done you do it. There is an ancient tight partial line on the stone which I'm pretty sure was there when set, that I'll mention just so you won't (see photos). All evidence of previous service just contributes to "the look" and serves to validate a history. Again, the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 8 1/4 on my jeweler's ring mandrel (the bottom edge of the shank will reach the 8 1/4 line worn as shown - flipped over it reaches the 8 line, with some extra space showing at the sides and bottom of the shank). About 7/8 in. vertical at the front, so yes it will be noticed. If you prefer historic Southwestern adornment for the road less travelled, or simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you.
