Model 1840. Schnitzler and Kirschbaum Saber with Scabbard dated 1847.:

This fine saber is an imported, high-quality blade produced by the Schnitzler and Kirschbaum firm of Solingen, Germany. The saber purchased by the U. S. Ordnance Department in its second contract of 1847.
This steel blade measures 37 inches total with the blade being 32.5 inches long by 1.5 inches wide, weighing approximately three pounds. It appears curved and has a single-edged blade with the back is both flat and wide. This type of model comes with materials such as leather that are original to its making.
Grips are excellent and feature a wooden core handle wound with cording then wrapped with original black bridle leather. Twisted brass wire on the grips is very tight and strong. Leather wrap exhibits few areas of slight scuffing and wear, otherwise very good.Please look at the pictures.If you have any questions then send me a message.
