This vintage Japanese wooden carving depicts two beautiful horses, handcrafted in Japan probably for a person born under the zodiac sign of the horse. The small figurine is made from carbonized wood in a simplified form that harkens to Mid-Century Modern carvings that were popular in the 1960s and 1970s. The piece is a nice addition to any collection, and its unique design is sure to catch the eye of anyone who sees it. The carving is made from multiple pieces of charred and sanded wood.

This small statuette still bears all of its labels, including its original price tag and the Miyazaki stamp. It stands about 5 inches tall. Both horses were glued to the base. The larger is loose and could stand to be reglued if the buyer chooses to do so. (Even loose, the larger horse stands well on its own.) Otherwise the figurine is in good condition with the usual rubs and scrapes that come with time. See photos.
