One-page Document Signed by New Hampshire Treasurer, JOHN TAYLOR GILMAN, being a receipt for RICHARD PIERCE April 3, 1784, for “thirty-four pounds, five shillings & one penny....for the tax of Hollis, for the year of 1782.” Superb and bold signature of Gilman as Treasurer.

GILMAN (December 19, 1753 – September 1, 1828) was a farmer, shipbuilder, statesman from Exeter, New Hampshire, who represented the state in the Continental Congress (1782-1783), was the fifth governor of New Hampshire for 14 years from 1794 to 1805. Gilman was also one of the Minutemen of 1775 and a selectman in 1777 and 1778. He served as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives.

Pierce (January 8, 1739 – December 16, 1812) was one of the owners of the original land grants in Plymouth, New Hampshire, which was settled by many people from Hollis. Pierce fought in the Revolutionary War at Fort Ticonderoga in 1776.
