Mexican War & Civil War Stainless Steel Drum Canteen Tin drum canteens of various designs became popular for civilian and sportsman use in the 1840s. During the United States\' war with Mexico, the soldiers of several states used tin drum canteens, including some with slightly convex sides that could hold more water. During the Civil War, many Confederate soldiers marched away to war sporting tin drum canteens, and they continued to be manufactured and used by Confederate soldiers throughout the conflict. Our Stainless Steel Drum Canteen is made just like the original tin version in appearance but without the rust issues that often make drinking from a canteen unpleasant. It comes complete with cotton strap as well as a stopper and chain.
