This is an astonishing vintage Santo Domingo hand carved fetish stone necklace. This phenomenal necklace contains a beautiful plethora of hand carved stones that are carved into fascinating animals. In the center a exquisite 1"½ tall handcarved Royston turquoise bear The animals graduate in size with the bottom measuring around 20mm X 10mm I love how the eyes consist of inlaid onyx or turquoise stones. Such amazing detailing and character to the animals with the intricate carvings. Resting throughout the stones are impressive hand cut brown shell heishi and turquoise heishi. Resting at the ends are silver cones with a traditional silver clasp. Sterling silver. Cir. Mid century . The length of the necklace measures around 31"½ Sturdy 38.2grams. It originated from Santo Domingo Pueblo in Sandoval County, New Mexico. Also known as Kewa Pueblo, it is located near the ancient Cerrillos turquoise mines and its people have an entrenched history of making fine jewelry and heishi out of the colorful stones.
