A gorgeous and important cast bronze seven branch Menorah. Decoration of olive tree branches between the canes. In the center of the Menorah is a plaque with the inscription in Hungharian: "...Elhullottak Hát a hősök... 1848/49" (the heros have fallen) and an inscription in Hebrew: "How heroes fell", above the inscriptions a lion illustration (as a symbol of heroism).
On the other side of the plaque is an embossed decoration of the Tablets of the Covenant and the Star of David. At the base of the menorah is an inscription: "Hm. Tábori Rabbinátus" [Ministry of Defense, Military Rabbinate]. As part of the Revolutions of 1848, sometimes called the "Spring of Nations," the "Hungarian Rebellion" also broke out in Hungary against the Austrian royal house that ruled Hungary. During the rebellion, the revolutionaries tried to establish a self-governing state, but after a series of battles with the Austrian army, which was also assisted by the Russian Tsar's army, the rebellion was suppressed. Many Jews who supported the rebels were killed in these battles. This lamp was made in their memory.
