This is a vintage souvenir of Vienna Austria / St. Stephens Gothic era Cathedral that is a pewter or pewter type metal pin brooch. The pin measures 1 1/2\" x 7/8\" and is cold painted. It features relief image of The Devil hypnotizing and pushing a man! The back is marked by maker, \"Meister Puchsbaum\". Master Puchsbaum is the unfortunate fellow victimized by the Devil. It seems he was a real life journeyman / architect that worked on the real St. Stephens Cathedral in the mid 1400\'s and died from a fall on scaffold there. A tale was spun about him where he made a pact with the Devil to complete the Cathedral construction and win the hand of his beloved Marie (daughter of his boss architect). Han\'s agreement with the Devil was not to utter the names of God, the Saints or Our Lady for an entire year and all would be his. He worked hard and construction was going well and fast and he was nearing his deadline. He was so busy he had hardly seen his beloved when one day he saw her walk into the Cathedral and he called to her from the high scaffold....\"Maria!....\". It was at this time the Devil appeared and pushed him to his death. Maria is the name of the Virgin Mary! Charming folk lore Devil story. It seems Europe has a lot of Devil stories involving church construction. This is a vintage item in functional condition.My photos are of the actual item you are getting.
