- Brown vulcanite oxidation removed (if vulcanite)

- Bowl pits may be filled with food grade gypsum (plaster of paris) the kind used with corn cob pipes (gypsum can be easily removed and identified due to its bright white color in the case a buyer wants to inspect the depth of a pit.

The carving on this turkish block meerschaum I refused to sand off. I knew just the bamboo piece to pair with this meer stummel. After a bit of reaming, it is quite apparent that this pipe’s bowl had quite a bit more depth to go before reaching the airway. So I’ve drilled to reveal a bowl closer to the “proper” drilling. I’ve left a few millimeters of bowl drilling depth. This is why the inner bowl appears partly a pristine cream color rather than black. This refraining to drill all the way to to the airway is something I recommend with meers, because I’ve seen so much bowl base erosion which occurs in meerschaum pipes as condensation at the base of the bowl erodes away the absorbing (and later adsorbing) meer substrate. A fairly short and trusty workhorse!
