And then there was another box!!! Yes, my brother found yet another box, and because he\'s downsizing to move out of the country my brother also brought me his own mineral collection to sell. He and Dad started it in the 1960s and he\'s kept his eyes open to interesting rocks in all of his travels (and he\'s been to many, many countries.) To tell the truth rock collecting isn\'t really my brother\'s passion although he liked doing this with Dad back in the day. In the mid 1970s both my brother and I both got jobs at Frazier\'s Minerals & Lapidary store in Berkeley, CA (thanks to my dad\'s connections) and he added even more specimens to his collection then. Dad had him trained to list the mineral\'s name and the location where it was found, but he didn\'t insist that my brother add the chemical, crystal formation, and Dana class information that Dad put on his main collection pieces.Since my brother\'s collection is really an extension of my Dad\'s collection I\'m including one of Dad\'s tags in case you want to use it.
This mineral specimen has lots going on: Marcas Crystal, Pyrite Crystals, Sphalerite on Curved Dolomite Crystals on Chert! It comes from Cherakee Co., Kansas. The pieceis roughly about 23 mm by 15 mm by 16? mm. It weighs about 4.062 grams (after I subtracted the weight of the box.) The stone is firmly glued onto the styrofoam thus the depth measurement was more of an estimate (which is why I added the question mark.)
With his PhD in mineralogy, my father loved to collect rocks. He took great pride in his mineral collection which he carefully organized by chemical groups. Since he recently passed away I\'m tasked with finding his treasures a new home.
Just so you know, I do send all the tags that he had with each mineral because they tell a story of the travels of the specimen. If they were with Dad\'s specimen I included them but you may have to look at the very bottom of the box to find them. I have added one of Dad\'s identification tags with what little information I have on the specimen in case you want to continue to seek out the scientific data and add it to the tag.
I still have loads of rocks and rough material to re-home so I\'ll be posting more of my father\'s rock collections (rough material, cut stones, pendants, mineral specimens, and other rock related items) off and on for months so do make my store one of your favorites and check in often to see what new items are listed. I try to list new items for sale every Tuesday.
I will gladly combine shipping for purchases made on the same day. If you win more than one sale I\'ve tried to set it up so the weights of the items will determine the final cost of postage and will automatically combine the shipping. However, since these stones are so lightweight it would be better for you to ask for an invoice before paying if you purchase more than one. That way I can get you a true weight on them. Due to my policy of trying to ship items within one day I cannot hold items (after you pay for them) in order to have me ship them with other items later, so try to buy what you want on the same day - that way I can get you the best shipping costs possible.
