MURICIDAE Pterynotus aparrii GIANT Philippines. Balut Island. Tangle nets. 100-150 m. 2013 33.1 mm. "A charming GIANT Pterynotus aparii, discovered only in 1980 and named after the exporter of commercial shells Rudy Apari from Mandaue, Cebu. Rudy was very active at that time and developed a side business in specimen shells, sponsoring fisherman for tangle-netting. This P. aparrii is better than any of 6 figures we could check in the literature (Houart & Trondle, 2008; Robin, 2008, Springsteen & Leobrera, 2006 and Houart, 1981, Anos in the Pei-Yo nr. 31, 2005, Houart, 1994). The species has apparently a huge range in the Pacific as one piece was found in the Austral Archipelago. Virtually all shells known are from the Philippines. Very orange, well fringed." - Poppe
