The William Shakespeare Limited Edition1597 is an edition of 1597 pens in reference to the year The Tragedy of Romeoand Juliet was first published.

The body of this luxurious writing instrumentwith its octagonal design is inspired by the Globe Theatre.

The cap isoctagonal too and finishes in a cap top shaped like the ringed roof of thetheatre.

In the center the deeply set white MB emblem crowns this Edition.

Theclip ring recalls the golden earring Shakespeare wore in the most famousportrait of him, the Chandos portrait.

Themulti-colored barrel features guilloche patterns that evoke a quill, asShakespeare might have used to pen his works. This pattern is overlaid withlacquer, as is the adjacent complementary pattern enrobed in blue.

These facetsare in turn separated by a gold ring with embossed symbols reminiscent ofShakespeare’s career.

A rose and dagger stand for Romeo and Juliet, a skull forHamlet, two chess pieces for King Lear, a crest for Henry V, a Moorish-inspiredpattern including a sworld for Othello, a crown for Macbeth, a swirling cloudfor The Tempest and a laurel wreath in the form of a "C" for JuliusCaesar.

The black capand red barrel coloration is a reference to the flags that flew above the Globetheater signifying the genre of the play being performed: red for historicaldrama and black for tragedy.

The smattering of blue references royalty, powerand heavenly grace.

A Tudor rose, in honor of Elizabeth I and her patronage ofShakespeare, embellishes the base of the pen.

The engravingon the handcrafted AU 750 gold nib of the William Shakespeare L.E. 1597captures one of the most famous scenes ever performed : the balcony scene fromRomeo and Juliet.

Fully working and ready to write with. Piston filling. The pen is not sealed but it has never been usednor inked.
