Celebrating the 250th anniversary of the famous Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and honouring one of the leading composers of the classical era and a master in allgenres.

The body of the pen is decorated in black lacquer and the cap in red lacquer with patterns reminiscent of the elaborate Rococo style. The pen comes with a leather bound volume of the “Jupiter Symphony” and an accompanying limited edition commentary. 18k - 750 rhodium plated gold Medium (M) nib engraved with an image of the composer.

The concerned pen has never been used nor inked. Large black lacquer presentation case with illustrated outer box (worn) and certificate (blank).

Mozart’s creative Vienna years

Around the middle of the 18th century his reputation as a "child prodigy" echoed throughout the concert halls of Europe. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, born in Salzburg in 1756, was only six years old when he turned the world of music upside down on his early concert tours. He wrote his first opera at the age of nine and was appointed concert master to the Archbishop of Salzburg when he was 13. Having spent many creative years travelling between Italy, Munich, Salzburg and Paris while constantly refining his composition skills, Mozart finally settled in Vienna in 1781. It was in the city on the Danube that the most productive period of Mozart's life commenced. In the ten years that followed, he wrote almost half of his complete works and reached the zenith of his public popularity as a concert organiser, conductor, pianist and composer. In 1782, the year "The Abduction from the Seraglio" was premiered, he married his long-standing sweetheart, Constanze Weber.

Having written mainly piano compositions and chamber music, there is no doubt that the focus of his creative talent shifted towards the dramatic genres from 1784 onwards under the influence of his partnership with the Italian librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte. These final Vienna years not only produced the successful operas "The Marriage of Figaro" (1786), "Don Giovanni" (1787) and "The Magic Flute" (1791) but also brought forth his last symphonies which include the legendary "Jupiter Symphony"

A genius reaches for the stars.

In a spate of creativity that belies belief by today's standards, it took Mozart a mere six weeks in the summer of 1788 to compose his trio of symphonies. These consisted of the Symphony in G minor, the Symphony in E flat major and the Symphony in C major, which is regarded as the pinnacle of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's musical career and is still known as the "Symphonic Triptych of 1788". On 10 August 1788, Mozart completed the last piece of this triptych, the Symphony in C major, which was posthumously subtitled the "Jupiter Symphony" and went down in musical history under this name. A name that pays tribute to a seemingly supernatural feat of composition on Mozart's part. It would appear that Mozart's "Jupiter Symphony" effortlessly merged the divisions between classical and baroque compositions, accomplishing a melodious blend of fugue and sonata and moulding contrasting musical figures into an overwhelming and harmonious whole. Never before had the star of the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who died following a brief, serious illness three years after completing the "Jupiter Symphony", shone more brightly than in this musical score.

To mark the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, Montblanc is issuing an exquisite writing instrument in 2006 - the W. A. Mozart Limited Edition, with a worldwide distribution strictly confined to 250 pens - to commemorate the life and work of this musical genius.

The intricate inlaid work incorporated into this writing tool is reminiscent of the classic arabesque patterns to which Mozart was attached throughout his lifetime and which formed an indispensable part of his wardrobe and accessories. Red lacquer inlays adorn the 750ct white gold cap, while the black lacquer barrel is inlaid with white gold motifs. The white gold cone engraved with the serial number echoes the arabesque theme with black lacquer inlaid work. The cap is decorated with two expertly modelled, diamond-encrusted rings below the mother-of-pearl Montblanc star. This superb writing instrument achieves classical perfection in the finely chiselled portrait of its namesake on the rhodium-plated 18ct gold nib. The pinnacle of classical music composition has been made tangible again in the form of an exquisite, leather-bound facsimile of Mozart's legendary "Jupiter Symphony", issued in conjunction with the Bärenreiter publishing company. The facsimile is accompanied by a copy of the renowned musicology professor Ulrich Konrad's valuable, comprehensive book of comments.

Both the facsimile and the book of comments are likewise limited to 250 copies.
