DESCRIPTION:Offered is this very nice and very active mid-20th century vintage American Modernistsigned, slab-constructed, hand-decorated stoneware art pottery ceramic vessel, with gold gilt reflective glaze and matte cerulean blue and powder blue glaze. It has a base gold gilt layer of glossy, reflective glaze that's been applied to the entire exterior of the vessel. The artist then used matte powder blue glaze, applied to the sidewalls in two swaths, of what appear to be a controlled drip glaze technique, where the secondary, layered glaze on top of the base glaze, is allowed to 'run' and organically and naturally cover only a portion of the sidewall surfaces. This area was then treated with what appears to be cerulean blue glaze applied over the areas of powder blue glaze with a dry brush, creating a sgraffito-like, hand-drawn, mark-making that would be the last artistic impulse and which rests above the other two layers of glaze. A remarkable vintage American Modernist ceramic vessel with terrific form and great color. Gorgeous.
CONDITION:Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.
