Vintage Mexican Sonora Mayo Yoeme Yaqui Pascola Pascua hand carved ethnographic folkloric ceremonial dance mask. Black, white and red painted front with lizards on cheeks, a cross at top, repeating triangular geometric designs around sides, white accent lines around eyes and down nose. Attached light brown natural horse animal hair. Two small round eye holes, two partially carved in nostrils. String threaded through mask to attach horse hair. Monofilament attached through two holes at sides, for wall hanging. Unpainted raw wood backing with a warm age-related patina. Unmarked, unsigned, no labels or tags. Uncertain of artisan, exact age, likely from the 1960s-70s.We believe there is a mask by the same artist in the Museo Nacional de Antropologia in Mexico City. We have attached a photo for comparison, the last picture in the gallery. In VG+ vintage condition with only very minor general signs of age and wear. Measures approximately 6 inches long with hair, and 4 inches deep including hair. Wood portion of mask measures approximately 7.75 inches long, and 5 inches wide. Weighs approximately 1/2 lb.
