This is a typescript copy of the police report filed in connection with the arrest of Lee Harvey Oswald at the Texas Theatre, less than two hours after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It\'s signed in blue ink by arresting officers Maurice \"Nick\" McDonald and Paul Bentley as well as Accident Investigator Ray Hawkins and Sergeant of Police Gerald L. Hill.
Typescript signed \"Gerald L. Hill\" as Sergeant of Police, \"Ray Hawkins\" as Accident Investigator, \"Paul Bentley\" as Detective and \"M N. McDonald\" as Patrolman. 2 pages, 8¼x10¾. Titled: \"Subject: Apprehension of suspect in the Death of the President of the United States and Officer J.D. Tippitt\". Their report to Dallas Chief of Police J.E. Curry, is dated November 22, 1963. This report details step by step the pursuit and arrest of suspected assassin Lee Harvey Oswald following the shooting of President Kennedy and Police Officer J. D. Tippitt. McDONALD (1928 or 1929-2005) wrestled with Oswald in the Texas Theater, being struck and scratched during the struggle. Oswald also pulled a pistol on him during the fight and pulled the trigger; however, the gun didn\'t fire. McDonald later claimed in his memoir The Arrest and Capture of Lee Harvey Oswald that he managed to block the hammer with his left hand before it could fall on the bullet; however, this detail isn\'t listed in this report. BENTLEY (1921-2008, born in Dallas, Texas) snapped the handcuffs on Oswald. Bentley told reporters after the fight that he only suspected Oswald in the shooting death of Tippit, which happened 30 minutes before the fight in the Texas Theatre and 45 minutes after the Kennedy assassination. He didn\'t know that Oswald was also the prime suspect in the Kennedy\'s murder. HAWKINS had responded to the call and aided in the arrest. HILL, along with Bentley, escorted Oswald in a squad car to the Homicide and Robbery Bureau. Lightly creased, otherwise in fine condition.See more material from these signers:MAURICE McDONALD PAUL BENTLEY RAY HAWKINS GERALD L. HILL See more listings in our LAW & ORDER (334) category.
