either considered toleware or fine french papier-mâché… hard to tell since it’s coated. likely 1850s-1860s (Napoleon III empire) based on similar examples i found online. the large tray would have been part of a matching desk set.
measures 20x 16 x 1” nice large size for holding magazines etc on your coffee table.
do not recommend putting wet or hot things on it as heat or liquids can ruin the vintage lacquered finish.
recently carefully cleaned and applied some food safe mineral oil to bring back the shine.
