It was actually an improved version of the L-049, stretched by 18 ft to compete with rival DC-6.</li> <li>Qantas Airways is the flagship of Australia and the third oldest airline in the world. The Qantas name is the acronym for its original name, \"Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services\".
