Lithium is a solid chemical element that comes third on the periodic table. It is represented with the symbol Li in chemistry. It appears as a silvery white metal and possesses a characteristic metallic lustre which corrodes upon exposure to moist air. This corrosion has a darkening effect on the metal. It is one of lightest metals and one of the three metals that can float on water, the other two being potassium and sodium. Lithium is very reactive and consequently, is not commonly found freely in mature and is highly flammable.
