The gentleman who owned the business at the moment did not know much about these things, but kept them on the shelf after he bought the store because they looked interesting. He didn’t realize that this was an astounding specimen of lepidodendron bark From the Carboniferous period of 330 million years ago. It comes from Poland, in the Silesia area and is an excellent example of the beautifully patterned bark of a giant tree fern. Fossils of these bark fossils from this era and location can command high prices so I think that, including the shipping, $169 for this specimen is a very good price.
