Sepia image printed on canvas, inscribed to an \"eternal fan\" from his \"eternal star\". She has also penned a note on verso describing this as one of her favorite photos.
Autograph Note on Photograph signed twice: \"To my \'eternal fan\'/from his/\'eternal [drawn star symbol]/Leatrice Joy\". Sepia, 7¾x10. Printed on canvas. ANS on verso: \"Hello! This photo is one of my/favorites! It\'s a pleasure/to sign and send to you. Sincerely/Leatrice Joy\". Silent film star Leatrice Joy (1893-1985) appeared in comedy shorts with Oliver Hardy (1917) before getting her first major feature film role, with Mary Pickford in The Pride of the Clan that same year. By the 1920s she was a major star, cast in Cecil B. DeMille extravaganzas like The Ten Commandments (1923). She often played strong, independent women. Her first husband was fellow film star John Gilbert. Joy had less success in the era of talking pictures, a decline some attributed to her then unfashionable southern accent. Joy still appeared in smaller roles, including an appearance with Marilyn Monroe in Love Nest (1951). Worn at corners. Lightly soiled at margins. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.See more material from these signers:LEATRICE JOY See more listings in our ACTORS & ACTRESSES (13,291) category.
