Kurt Busiek was born in Boston, Massachusetts (September 16, 1960) and is an acclaimed comic book writer. His early life consisted of living in various towns in the Boston area. It was in Lexington the he met & befriended Scott McCloud (also future comic book creator ). He did not read comics as a youngster because his parents disapproved of them. It was after picking up a copy of Daredevil #120 (April 1975) that he began to read them regularly. He had picked up the first part of a continuity-heavy four-part story arc. His curiositywas drawn to the copious history and cross-connections with other series. Throughout high school and college, he and McCloud practiced making comics & contributing to comics hobbyist publications (ie..NMP's Comics Feature). He, also, had many letters published in comic book letter columns. His love of telling a story most probably assisted him in originating the theory that the Phoenix was a separate being who had impersonated Jean Grey, and that therefore Grey had not died. Kurt began to submit sample scripts to DC editor Dick Giordano; however, none of them sold. What he did get was an invitation to pitch other material to DC & his first professional work (Green Lantern #162 (March 1983) back-up story). This lead to him writing four fill-in issues of Power Man and Iron Fist. In 1985, he wrote a Red Tornado limited series. The Marvels limited series (Busiek and artist Alex Ross (1993))an acclaimed masterpiece truly helped to reinvigorate painted comics as a genre. It was after his work on the Marvels limited series that he launched his own series titled Astro City while also working a four-year run on The Avengers, Thunderbolts and Superman. Busiek relaunched his Astro City series (June 2013) as part of DC's Vertigo line aimed at a more sophisticated and adult reader; which concluded with Astro City #52 (2018).
Brent Anderson (June 15, 1955) is an comics artist who discovered the pantheon of characters in Marvel Comics while in junior high school. First reading Marvel comic's Fantastic Four # 69 ("By Ben Betrayed" (Dec. 1967)). This medium of expression had him beginning to write and draw his own comics on school binder paper; creating his own pantheon of of characters which included "Radium the Robot" and "The Chameleon". He was one of several artists to work on the comics adaptation of Xanadu (Marvel Super Special #17 (Summer 1980)). Anderson was teamed with writer Bruce Jones on Ka-Zar The Savage (1981) to become Anderson's first regular series. This was followed by a Marvel Comics Graphic Novel (The X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills). Brent was given opportunities to turn out artwork on a number of Marvel Comics series: Strikeforce: Morituri being one of them. He had, also, branched out into actively doing artwork for independent publishers Pacific Comics and Eclipse Comics (including the innovative cinematic comic Somerset Holmes). Anderson and Kurt Busiek co-created the award-winning Astro City with the assistance of cover artist Alex Ross. Dan DiDio a writer & editor for DC Comics teamed with him on a new on-going Phantom Stranger series (September 2012). Dc's Vertigo line re-teamed Buseik & Anderson on relaunching their Astro City series (June 2013) & concluded with of issue #52 (2018). An impressive postscript regarding Anderson's work is that it fits into the category of "realism" defined by Neal Adams (his artistic influence). His work is known for the focus on character.
