Here offered is one of the neatest specimens I have ever seen from Alabama. The bulk of the specimen is made up of blocky covellite and chalcocite crystals that are tightly intergrown. The blueish color comes through quite shiny and beautifully even through all the copper secondaries! The specimen is capped on either side by gossan as this portion of the vein cross-cut the gossan which is quite an unusual for a secondary enrichment ore zone! The top of the gossan has bubbly malachite crystals that are rimmed by 2 different blue minerals, one light blue and one dark blue. I'm thinking it's allophane which is quite rare for the southeast US. The specimen is studded with multiple vugs that are loaded with perfect brochantite crystals! And they are scattered throughout the specimen so not just one vug. They are really killer under the microscope. There are a few other small things I'm not sure on as well that might be interesting. This is definitely not a specimen I would imagine as coming from Alabama!
