Antique Persian Kalamkari quite old when purchased during the 1940s by my grandparents during their diplomatic career. Respectfully cared for though indeed in antique condition. 53 inches long x 34 1/2 inches wide.

Crafted in the late 19th century orvery early 20th century by skilled Iranian craftsmen, this hand-blocked cottonprayer mat features a profusion of religious and nature-inspired motifs. Itssurface is adorned with a selection of patterns and motifs created using thetraditional woodblock printing technique called Kalamkari. The 400 century oldtechnique originating from Isfahan, utilizes only natural and local materials.A selection of repetitive, organic motifs adorns the cotton textile. Thepatterns are colored in various shades of red, cream, and blue, their designinspired by religious Islamic architecture, in particularly of the mihrab orprayer niche. Arabic markings feature above it. This Persian prayer mat is animportant religious item and can be used as a wall hanging in modernist or traditionalinterior spaces.
