This is a once in a life time chance to own the MSC version STS-1 Heat Shield Award given to the mission commander John Young. This Lucite measures about 4" x 2 3/4" and contains a section of mission flown thermal tile removed from the Space Shuttle Columbia after it historic maiden flight.
The STS-1 Mission with Commander John Young and Pilot Bob Crippen marked the first an only time in history that a spacecraft made its first ( Maiden) flight with a crew onboard. ( Someone had to land the dam thing! ) After the mission sections of thermal tile flown as part of the Thermal Protection System where awarded in these Lucite displays to NASA Managers, Engineers and of course the flight crew. This is the one and only Lucite John Young received there are no others!
This Lucite has also been signed on the reverse side " From my collection" and signed by John Young. this is a true piece of space history and is in near mint condition with very light handlingwear.
