James Harold Doolittle(December 14, 1896 – September 27, 1993) was an American militarygeneraland aviation pioneer who received theMedal of Honorfor his daring raid on Japan duringWorld War II.[1]He also made early coast-to-coast flights, record-breaking speed flights, won many flying races, and helped develop and flight-testinstrument flying.[2]

Raised inNome, Alaska, Doolittle studied as an undergraduate atUniversity of California, Berkeley, graduating with aBachelor of Artsin 1922. He also earned a doctorate inaeronauticsfrom theMassachusetts Institute of Technologyin 1925, the first issued in the United States.[2][3]In 1929, he pioneered the use of \"blind flying\", where a pilot relies on flight instruments alone, which later won him theHarmon Trophyand made all-weather airline operations practical. He was a flying instructor duringWorld War Iand a reserve officer in theUnited States Army Air Corps, but he was recalled to active duty during World War II. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for personal valor and leadership as commander of theDoolittle Raid, a bold long-range retaliatory air raid on some of the Japanese main islands on April 18, 1942, four months after theattack on Pearl Harbor. The raid used 16B-25B Mitchellmedium bombers with reduced armament to decrease weight and increase range, each with a crew of five and noescort fighteraircraft. It was a major morale booster for the United States and Doolittle was celebrated as a hero, making him one of the most important national figures of the war.

Doolittle was promoted tolieutenant generaland commanded theTwelfth Air Forceover North Africa, theFifteenth Air Forceover the Mediterranean, and theEighth Air Forceover Europe. He retired from the Air Force in 1959 but remained active in many technical fields. Doolittle was inducted into theNational Aviation Hall of Famein 1967, eight years after retirement and only five years after the Hall was founded. He was eventually promoted togeneralin 1985, presented to him by PresidentRonald Reagan43 years after the Doolittle Raid.[4]In 2003, he toppedAir & Space/Smithsonianmagazine\'s list of the greatest pilots of all time, and ten years later,Flyingmagazine ranked Doolittle sixth on its list of the 51 Heroes of Aviation.[5][6]He died in 1993 at the age of 96, and was buried atArlington National Cemetery.

......Shipping and Packaging details: I ship everything with cardboard backing. Additionally, I slip all autographed photos inside sturdy photo-protective sleeves. Payment details: Typically, I ship paypal payments right away. PAYPAL is recommended.International shipping will be higher as all international orders go through the Global Shipping program. How I obtained my autographs, and why I promise a FULL MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE: As a kid, from roughly the years 1965 to 1973, and later from 1974-the present, I have amassed an enormous collection of autographed sports and celebrity memorabilia. In most cases, using Jack Smalling\'s baseball address lists and other assorted address lists, I wrote to both active and retired baseball players, sending them letters, requests for signatures, and self-addressed-stamped envelopes. This is how I obtained thousands of autographs. I also obtained many autographs in person at area parks and hotels. In the 1980\'s and 1990\'s, I travelled the country doing shows (20 National Conventions) and would buy quantities of autographs through player signings. I have every reason to believe that all of the autographs I\'m selling are absolutely authentic. I stand by every item I sell. Upon purchasing an item from me through , you may return that item, in the condition in which I shipped it to you, within 14 days of receipt of that item if you are not satisfied with the item. I am selling each item \"as is\", per the guarantee I\'ve promised above. All the old time autograph dealers know me and the professional authenticators will vouch for my reputation as well. I do this on a part time basis, so sometimes emails take a day. I have worked hard for my response rating. The last thing I want to do is damage my credibility, so if you have legitimate concerns about any item you win from me on , I\'ll make every effort to remedy the situation to your satisfaction. PLEASE NOTE: Most items come with certificates of authenticity from outside companies (JSA and PSA predominantly; they are the best). I have spent lots of money with third party authenticators and have had very few come back without passing. Sincerely, Joe Binder , Downers Grove, Illinois
