He was Prime Minister from 1974 to 1976, then from 1986 to 1988, and President of the Republic from 1995 to 2007 SALGADO SEBASTIAO : Sebastião Salgado was born on 8 February 1944 in Aimorés, in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil, and lives in Paris with his wife and greatest accomplice, Lélia Wanick Salgado. He began his career as a photographer after training in economics. He began his career in Paris in 1973, working for several agencies: Sygma, Gamma and Magnum Photos. In 1994, he and Lélia decided to set up their own press agency dedicated exclusively to his photographic work. He travels to more than a hundred countries for his photographic projects, which, in addition to numerous publications in the press, were later mostly presented in books such as Autres Amériques (1986), Sahel, l\'homme en détresse (1986), La main de l\'homme (1993), Terra (1997), Exodes et Les enfants de l\'exode (2000), Africa (2007), Genesis (2013) and Koweit (2016). Travelling exhibitions of these works have been and continue to be shown around the world. Sebastião Salgado has received numerous awards, is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, and an honorary member of The Academy of Arts and Science in the United States. Since 2016, Salgado has been a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts of the Institut de France, in the chair previously held by Lucien Clergue.
