Envelope with Washington, D. C. Free Frank postmark dated June 22, 1857 from Horatio King as First Assistant Postmaster General and then for a period of less than one month as Postmaster General of the United states under President James Buchanan. When questioned by a member of Congress regarding the privilege of franking, Horatio King was the first to deny the power of a state to separate from the Union. The envelope measures approximately 8.25"w x 3.75"h. Please see images for condition.
