This vintage real photo postcard features British actress and singer, Jean Simmons (1929-2010). She appeared mainly in film. She was in British films made during and after World War II. From 1950 and after, she was predominately in Hollywood films. She was an Academy Award nominee for her appearance in Hamlet (1948) and in \"The Happy Ending\" (1969) and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in \"Guys and Dolls\" (1955). Other film appearanes included \"The Robe\"(1953), \"The Big Country\" (1958), and \"Spartacus\" (1960). Simmons began acting at the age of 14. She attended Aida Foster School of Dance in London where she was \"discovered\" by a film director who cast her in a 1944 film. More parts followed and she was signed to a seven year film contrat by the J. Arthur Rank Organization. Her appearance in the 1946 film, \"Great Expectaions\" launched her to stardom. Simmons starred with actor Steward Granger in a 1949 comedy. It was her first adult role and she became romantically involved with Granger and the pair soon married. Bu 1950, she was the fourth most popular star in Britain. In 1951, Simmons signed a Hollywood contract with Howard Hughes (RKO Pictures). Hughes was interested in a romantic relationship with Simmons but Granger put a stop to any attempts by the Hollywood mogul. Hughes attempted to punish Simmons by mistreating her in the filming of some her subsequent films. In 1953, the actress went to work for 20th Century Fox. In the 1970\'s and 1980\'s Simmons acted in stage and television roles. She went of a US tour in Stephen Sondheim\'s \"A Little Night Music\" and than appeared in the show\'s London\'s run.She ended up performing in the show for three years. In 1983 she appeared in the TV series \"The Thorn Birds\" for which she won an Emmy. This real photo postcard was published by Edition du Globe. The photograph of Simmons was taken by International Press. A logo for 20th Century Fox can be seen in the lower right hand corner of the image. The logo dates the card to the 1950\'s. This postcard is in good condition (see scans).
