Chen is a meticulous craftsman creating outstanding knives with a keen eye to the tightest tolerances you will find under $500.
The Combustion slipjoint from J.E made is like the sebenza of slipjoint knives. It is made to exacting standards, with premium materials and unmatched fit and finish. The combustion has a heavy backspring to compliment the vault like construction and runs on bronze phosphor washers for that hydraulic smoothness. The 'hard to find' CPM 3V tool steel blade variant is hand ground and beautifully executed. The fit and finish is just insane on this knife, there are absolutely zero gaps in the backspring, a crisp half stop, blade is dead centered and it just feels indestructible. The knife is in perfect condition, but I did put on a leather lanyard (beautiful hand cut full grain horween chromexcel leather cordage) which is just something I do with all my slipjoints.

Other than piece of mind, what would be the benefit of CPM-3V in such a small package you might ask? Edge stability at extremely acute edge angles. If you were to sharpen this thing to a screaming convex razor at the edge and whittle some hard-wood...cpm-3v would have you covered. Toughness is not just about impact resistance, it directly impacts edge stability. I've also found it to be important in being able to quickly bring back hair popping sharpness in the field due to the ability to simply just hit a couple passes on a ceramic rod, realigning any microscopic deformation to the edge.
