A poster from American Legion Post No. 10 in Newark, NJ regarding the \"National Defense Committee\". There is only sparse information on this committee but I believe it was founded in 1926 by veterans of WW1 and is now a part of the Daughters of the American Revolution organization.
It was organized for preparedness on the homefront for national security. Given the likely time frame of this poster in the 1930\'s, this poster was likely a reaction to the rise of the Nazi regime. At the desk are seated three veterans, I assume, listed asJohn H. Laux, Secretary, Charles Duerr, Newark director and William J. Doyle Essex Director. American legion Post no. 10 and \"National Defense Committee\" are labeled above their names, with the Newark post on the flag on the right.
This looks like this was displayed in the legion for quite some time, probably at least through the war. A very rare item, probably a one of a kind. R. J. Davison is signed in the bottom right corner, who I assume was the original artist.
Given the design of the aircraft in the sky I am going to estimate this as late 30\'s or early 40\'s. I think that is also a barrage balloon there.
