Presented today is this lovely Hopi Kachina doll, depicting the Soyuk Wuhti, the Monster Woman. This fierceand aggressive ogre appears with her sons and terrifies bad children. Shethreatens to pitch them into her basket and take them off and eat them. Onlytheir mothers\' fervent pleas save them. This beautifully dramatic example,standing 5 and a half inches tall, was carved by the talented and respectedcarver, Martin Dallas, of Moencopi. Martin carves with a with a sensitivevitality, and his work is always reverent and sincere.
