Just like with \"Xena Warrior Princess\" trading cards, Hercles The Legendary Journeys initially started out with Topps in 1996 and then switched to Rittenhouse in 2001; but, not before Topps created a great but simple set with high quality cards.
We got most cards from packs but a few came to us from Topps\' Hercules TLJ card lots on when the boxes did not contain all the cards needed to complete a set, due to \"short printed cards\" (#s 1-18) and some other cards came with those lots.
First, Hercules The Legendary Journeys had cards produced by Topps in 1996, a 90 card base set with 2 Holofoil cards and 9 Embossed Cards. This listing only offers only three varieties of embossed cards:
The Hecules TLJ (The Legendary Journeys) Embossed Card E1-Hercules (on front and back). On the front it is in excellent condition with Kevin Sorbo the star, holding a staff and that is the side that is embossed. The back side shows a little tiny bit more wear (see pics) so it is in excellent condition and not near mint.
TheHercules TLJ Topps Embossed Card #7:Prometheus, as played byMark Ferguson in the made for TV movie, \"Hercules and the Circle of Fire\" and then appearing weekly in show\'s intro with the hero music after the first part of the story. Here is the brave god-hero who risked it all to bring fire to humans was punished by the gods in cruel ways for this: see him frozen in this photo for one. The other punishment we saw on Xena in the Xena / Hercules crossover episode, \"Prometheus\" in the first season of Xena: Warrior Princess. This one is in near mint condition (better than excellent).
The Hercules TLJ Embossed Card #8: The Minotaur (named Gryphus-played by Athony Ray Parker but the voice actor was Al Chalkas). This card is in excellent condition. This scary half man (the lower half) and half giant bull (the top half) terrorized people in the Hercules made for TV movie, \"Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur\" in which Hercules confronts him to save many people, but is told by Gryphus the Minotaur that he is also a son of Zeus who deformed him in punishment, making Hercules his brother! Thus, Hercules decides not to fight him. That is, until Gryphus attacks him when his guard is down and in self-defense Hercules must fight him to save his life and the lives of others which hang in the balance.
Famed epic older movie actor Anthony Quinn also stars in the Hercules made for TV movies as Zeus which is partly why those five made for TV Movies got such a huge audience since Kevin Sorbo was not a big name yet. Thank you, Mr.Quinn for helping to make the way for TV show hits such as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess!
Any one of these wonderful cards can help you recall the wonderful, adventurous and wonderful moments in this heroic, epic tale of the half man-half god legend, \"Hercules\" with 5 made for TV movies and 6 seasons of the television show, \"Hercules The Legendary Journeys,\" which ran on TV from 1995-2001 (although they wrapped up production in 1999). They also were a great companion for Xena for four and a half of its six full seasons. After Hercules left the air, new shows were created to take up the time slot and those made many Xena guest stars regular stars of \"Jack of All Trades\" & \"Cleopatra2525.\"
