Henry Harley \'\'Hap\'\' Arnold [1886 1950] who served from 1907 until his death in 1950, was an American general, early bird pilot who held the ranks of General of the Army and later, General of the Air Force. He was also an aviation pioneer who was taught to fly by the Wright Brothers and was one of the first military pilots worldwide and one of the first three rated pilots in the United States Air Force. He is also the only officer to hold a five-star rank in two different U.S. military services. During World War I, he was a protege of General Billy Mitchell and supervised the expansion of the Air Service. During World War II, he supervised the expansion of an organization of 20,000 men and a few hundred aircraft into the largest and most powerful air force in the world. Listed for sale is a [TLS] typed letter signed by general Henry Harley Arnold on the letterhead of the, War Department, Headquarters of the Army Air Forces, Washington. The letter is dated March 26, 1943, addressed to a collector and signed \'\'H.H. Arnold\'\' in black fountain pen above his typed name and rank as General of the Army. The letter measures 8.00 x 10.50 inches, it has trivial toning otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, war dated, signed on a desirable letterhead and is ideal for display.
