Heavy Display Vase (Handpainted 1973) Children at Play having \"A Barrel of Fun\":
$59.95

Up for sale is a hand-painted chalk-ware / plaster-of-Paris piece depicting five children and a dog encircling a barrel and each is peering into it in an attempt to discover what is inside. It would appear that previous to this \"curiosity\" arousal, the youngsters might have been playing baseball (note the base, ball, and bat leaning on the barrel). Ah, the remembered days of the joy and spontaneity of childhood!

The piece stands about 5 inches high and has a diameter of around 5.5 inches. The piece was purchased painted in Boulder, Colorado in 1975. It has \"© Cheryl 73\" on the bottom. I purchased it at a yard sale and believe the owner likely created this at a Kraft Shop that sold white plaster decorative sculpture pieces then the buyer would use her own judgment as to how it should be painted.

Its humorous portrayal provides a nostalgic celebration of childhood past and its individualized painting scheme makes this piece a \"one-of-a-kind\" decor item for a table, desk, or shelf.

I used it as a desk \"catch all\" for markers, pens, pencils, etc. when I taught school. (Note photo). I retired a few years back so no longer need this wonderful item.

The piece is in excellent condition with no evidence of any cracking. The color is still strong with only some light paint flaking. There actually is a small cavity in the center of the barrel which can hold small objects.

The piece is a little dusty and there is some staining inside since the cavity since I used it as a writing implement holder (e.g., short magic markers, crayons, small pencils) on my office desk.

Typical of most plaster sculptures, it is a very heavy piece.
