High-grade American turquoise in a large, classically designed, masterfully executed brooch

Deep stamp work in a substantial gauge of silver

Lively, cutout edges and lavish stampings recall Navajo jewelry of the 1930s-1940s

Recessed areas in the silver are darkened with oxide; surface is polished to a high shine pin brooch measures 2"inches×19mm

And then there's the big focal point in the center: a rich, teal-colored piece of natural Carico Lake turquoise, mined in northern Nevada. Its dark, chocolate-y matrix adds character to the gorgeous blue-green stone. Both turquoise and matrix have richer and more saturated colors than we were able to capture in the photos. Because of increased demand here and abroad, and the closure of most domestic mines, it's getting difficult to find larger pieces of high-quality American turquoise. We'd bet that this excellent piece spent more than a few years in somebody's vault before going into this brooch.
