HUGE! Very High Quality GEM CALCITE CRYSTAL on MATRIX of Dolomite. Quartz, Barite and Sphalerite. This specimen is the RARE Scalenohedral Habit of CALCITE CRYSTALS. Was mined about a mile below the surface at the Famous (1980\'s) Elmwood Mine (became Famous when Gem Calcite and Gem Fluorite was discovered) that was primarily excavated as a zinc mine. These specimens are very RARE nowadays because the mine was closed and flooded in the late 1990\'s. (The Elmwood was reopened in 2010 by a consortium to again bring zinc profit from mine but after 13 years closed again in 2023). For about fifteen years this specimen was part of an Award Winning Display at many Northwest Gem and Mineral events. Now it is time to pass on these Treasures at about half their actual cost and market value. Specimen has deep Golden Colorations in the major Calcite Crystal and the mass actually has multiple terminations. Surfaces are shiny plus lines, edges, terminations are perfectly Natural. Some internal inclusion fractures that are normal in larger specimens from this situation. There is a 20 mm contact near the termination that blends in so well it is hard to discern and there are four flea bites on the surface but again these are not distractions for a specimen of this magnitude. Backlighting demonstrates the amazing translucency. Being mined about a mile below the surface the heat, pressure and moisture plus other Geologic Stress affects the development and architecture of larger crystals. This specimen is extremely solid, stable and very durable. Sets calm for display at many angles when setting with the Matrix as base. Measures about 9.5 in x 5.5 in x 5 inches at max margins and main CALCITE Crystal about 200 mm x 60 mm x 75 millimeters. Specimen weighs 4 pounds 10.7 ounces.
