This is an early manuscript document concerning HMS Frigate 'Guernsey.' An examination of the ship's master, Captain John Uther, and his apprehension of the ship 'Tobias,' master Peter Hawke, out of Fredererichstadie with a cargo of deal. The examination taken before Sir Thomas Clifford on board the 'Prince Royal.'

The Gurnsey gave chase to the Tobias after she came out of shelter from contrary weather. Her master testified that the Tobias was, in fact, bound for London to discharge her cargo to Mr. Robert Walker and others, living in Southwark. Signed by John Uther and representatives of the Tobias.

Uther was commissioned Lieutenant in 1663 and Captain in 1665, the date of this document.
